I really like that artwork. Probably my favourite so far from the whole 2nd Law era.

I also like that lyric video better than the other two. Very '007'. Suits the song well!

To me this news isn't exciting at all as there won't be any physical release :-(

I've just come to accept it now and know that it's just a case of waiting for the promo to come down in price (£92!? They'll be going for ~£20 in a couple of weeks).

It saddens me that they don't do physical singles anymore but they held out longer than most of my other favourite bands did by releasing them during The Resistance so I can be thankful for at least that.

And once again, no b-sides is a real downer

Yeah that just plain confuses me, that they haven't even got a remix or anything with it. Who is actually going to buy a one-track single from an album released nearly four months ago?

I like to consider myself a hardcore Muser but... not me, I'm afraid! This was the exact reason Follow Me is the only Muse song to not chart. Well done Warner, you should of learnt from your lessons.

Vinyl is making a comeback of sorts, cassettes are still sold en masse in the far east. eastern europe and the americas.  and people do still buy CD's.  Its true that the charts and buying physical singles dont have the same appeal anymore.  Gigs and Albums are where the lions share of the ROI is made from.

You used to be able to get all kinds of remixes and b-sides that never made an album but got put on as extras for just about most bands and artists.

With The 2nd Law the band probably only had a few spare songs (think i read they had 20 song ideas to begin with), and so they only recorded the songs that were to go on the album = no b-sides  :'(

I suspect the only rationale for the release and its timing is The Brit Awards.  If it were not for their nomination and appearance at the awards I doubt they would be releasing it now.  As a result it's a lazy release by WB to take advantage of the promotion opportunity the Brits present them with.

I think you're right, they are running so fast with the single releases! Let's hope for a Panic Station video for the summer :D

I was hoping for some overseas collectibles to import from the lack of UK releases. Like how Germany got those Undisclosed Desires singles that we didn't. But sadly there seems to be little of that too apart from the actual album's overseas CD releases.

I took down my collection yesterday and was shocked at how little I have from The 2nd Law era. Almost no collectables! Which unfortunately probably puts the promos at a higher price as they will be more sort after

I recently bought the main Madness and Follow Me promos from a collector on here but apart from that all I have from The 2nd Law are the two Japanese editions of the album. I'll probably grab the LP of it next, or a Supremacy promo when the prices are more reasonable.

Got some of the regular releases plus the australian boxset. Apart from that my T2L era is pretty boring :( On the other hand I didn't really had space for it, so it's better this way ;)

I put my T2L tea towel and my home made Xmas present stage on my T2L shelf because it looked so empty :/ I don't like this at all!

But yeah at least we have these promo's, and they look pretty nice. I like that they all have a different colour. I'm going to guess that Panic Station will be blue with a white sleeve inside.

Fingers crossed that Panic Station is a single then! It's easily in my top 5 Muse songs.

I honestly don't know why it wasn't the first single. Seeing the reaction to it would be hilarious.

I swear I read on facebook somewhere about a Panic Station promo or video or SOMETHING. But then again, I've been hardly sleeping recently, and when I tried to sleep last night I woke up several times and went on facebook in-between. It was probably a dream, but I honestly cannot tell :S

I'm coming back from that statement.

In that new ping pong interview (sorry I'm at work, I don't have a link) Chris said that the new video they shot in CA this week was for a single that wouldn't be coming out in the US. So that's Supremacy I guess. In Japan they told fans that they were shooting the video for Panic Station, so then I think that that one must be for the US?
And then it will have a different promo.

I want Panic Station to be released over here as well though, yeah. It really should've been the first single! I think T2L would've been way more successfull if it had been.

I go with this. The first time I heard Panic Station, I had an eargasm. Madness had to grow on me... a lot. Alternatively, I think the "shock-tactic" of first single works well. Give the fans something extreme to excite them for the album! I still maintain that Unsustainable would of made a pretty cool lead single

Right, I wrote this rant on my page, so i'll just copy it over here:

____________________________

Okay, prepare yourselves for a little rant. First of all, here is the music video for Supremacy. I donít know who the director is but Iím rather disappointed. I was expecting a James Bond-type tribute but I suppose weíre stuck with surfers having a party... Iíve never encountered more of a less-fitting video for a song before, ever. Iím still thoroughly confused.

Next, Warner have failed miserablyÖ AGAIN. I do wonder what exactly their policy with Muse is. Shamefully, there has been an on-going pattern of laziness or a lack of bother and care when it comes to Muse singles during The 2nd Law era. These points being: lack of announcements; digital download-only releases; and the absence of extras such as b-sides and remixes. I would love to confront Warner and ask them who exactly would purchase this next single? We already all own a copy of The 2nd Law, and albeit how much I adore Muse with all my heart, Iím not going to purchase a download for something I already own. Yes, I must admit that a tasty remix, exclusive single-only version/edit, or even a live performance of a song would sway me towards it, but honestly, Iím not going to purchase it later on in the month.

Follow Me is the only Muse single ever to not chart in the UK, and do you know why? Because it was barely announced, was given little or no promotion and there was nothing going for it that fans didnít already own. I would have thought that Warner would learn from their mistake, but I suppose not.

Promos were sent out at the beginning of January, the lyric video was released last month, and now we have the music video. So what exactly do we have to look forward to on the 25th February? Absolutely nothing, thatís what. Get set for another flop, guys!

Terrible video and hard to argue your sentiment but simple to see the WB rationale - singles are not where the money is made and never has that been more true than it is in the digital age.

It's purely a business matter related to revenue and margins and nothing more.  Not great for collectors but good for business....

Bad though the video is, nice to see the Origin like palm/cactus at the start of the video and it's still a great song - especially live!

I also agree with Nathan. I had the same feeling that the vid doesn't fit the song.
And as far as digital releases are concerned they are of no use. The only thing worth was the T2L box, but again we all probably should have waited the general release and not order it from muse.mu
With no physical releases and no b sides, there's no excitement at all about new singles.
So in the end, I'm starting to think of selling some stuff.

What a strange video! I come from a surfing town and you never see "goths" going near the beach, let alone in the sea - is it supposed to be ironic or artsy?

I thought this song was about eroding heirachy and eliteism, not blurring social boundaries? I prefer the lyrics video - in fact I really love the lyrics video.

Its a shame that singles are doomed. It should not just be about the bottom line, but the legacy of the band and the nurturing of the fanbase. Without singles (which is what we have, making a video and putting a copy of the mp3 online with a pricetag is hardly a single release) we have to wait 3 years between releases / promo tours, not to mention the potential b-sides which the world will never hear. Boo!
Title: Re: Supremacy = next single
Post by: nathanjhunt on Feb 08, 01:09:31AM
Yes exactly, I agree Tom. It sickens me that it's just business with music labels these days. It's about finding a way to make the most money rather than creating and displaying things that the fans will love. They're killing the fan base and our hopes in the future of music. I really do wonder what's to become of it all...

But no worries though folks, I've been hard at work today re-editing the music video taking out any reference of the KISS surfers and replacing it with clips from Skyfall! I'm currently uploading it to YouTube, and it should be done in less than an hour

Edit: here it is folks
